Morgan Spurlock Returns to Host 2010 IDA Documentary Awards IDA welcomes back documentary producer, director Morgan Spurlock as host of the 2010 IDA Documentary Awards. Host of the Awards in 2008, the Academy Award® and Emmy® Award-nominated Spurlock directed Super Size Me (2004), Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden? (2008), The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3-D! On Ice! (2010), Freakonomics (2010) and Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan's Hope, set for release in 2011.

Barbara Kopple to Receive Career Achievement Award
Barbara Kopple to Receive Career Achievement Award The IDA will award its prestigious 2010 Career Achievement Award to legendary documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple. This award is given to a filmmaker who has made a major impact on the documentary genre through a long and distinguished body of work. Kopple’s 1976 documentary, Harlan County USA, about a coal miners’ strike in Kentucky, earned an Academy Award® as well as a place in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. Her 1991 film American Dream also won an Academy Award®, as well as the Jury Prize, the Audience Award and the Filmmaker’s Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival. In previous years, IDA has bestowed its Career Achievement Award on documentary luminaries such as Sheila Nevins, Michael Apted, Ken Burns, Albert Maysles, Haskell Wexler, Michael Moore, Werner Herzog, and last year’s recipient, Errol Morris.

IDA to Honor Alan and Susan Raymond with 2010 Pioneer Award The 2010 IDA Pioneer Award honors Alan and Susan Raymond, the filmmakers behind the seminal nonfiction series prototype, An American Family (1973). After An American Family, the Raymonds formed their own company, Video Verite, and produced The Police Tapes (1977), which captures the life and times of a precinct in the South Bronx, and which inspired numerous fiction and nonfiction law enforcement series. The couple received an Oscar® nomination for Doing Time: Life Inside the Big House (1991) and an Oscar® for I Am a Promise: The Children of Stanton Elementary School (1993).
Award-winning filmmaker and Film Professor Mark Jonathan Harris to Receive IDA's Preservation and Scholarship Award
Award-winning filmmaker and Film Professor Mark Jonathan Harris to Receive IDA's Preservation and Scholarship Award Academy Award® winner and longtime USC film professor Mark Jonathan Harris will be honored with the IDA Preservation and Scholarship Award. Harris received his Oscars® for the documentaries The Redwoods (1968) and Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport (2000) and directed the Oscar winning feature documentary, The Long Way Home (1997). Chair of the documentary film program at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Harris has taught at USC for over 25 years. Many of his students have gone on to award-winning careers in documentary filmmaking and have also returned to USC to teach.
Jeff Malmberg to Receive Jacqueline Donnet Award
Jeff Malmberg IDA acknowledges exemplary creative contributions to the field at large. Jeff Malmberg, director of the one of the year's most celebrated films, MARWENCOL, will receive the 2010 IDA/Jacqueline Donnet Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award.
