About the Project
At 18 months, William Brawner contracted HIV through a blood transfusion. The diagnosis thrusts an average middle-class, African American family in the way of an oncoming train of international hysteria as the world struggled to understand the disease. Fearing stigma and discrimination, the family made a controversial decision to keep his status a well-guarded secret. 25 years later, William is finally ready for the world to know that he has HIV.
