About the Project

Logline
When a 315-year-old tree falls in Montana’s Yaak Valley, a piece of it becomes a guitar, and the guitar becomes a rallying cry for artists to speak up for America’s wild places.

Synopsis
Deep in Montana’s Yaak Valley, a 315-year-old spruce comes down. It is a tree that was already old when the country was young. Acclaimed environmental writer Rick Bass sends a piece of it to master luthiers, who shape it into an acoustic guitar built to give the forest a voice.

That guitar sets off something bigger. Painters, poets, musicians, and writers from across the country answer its call. They come from every genre and every corner of the map, and they share one belief: art can change how we see the places we are at risk of losing. Songs of the Ancient Forest follows this movement as it grows, and shows how a song, a painting, or a single line of verse can move people to protect what is wild.

Narrated by Jeff Bridges and featuring some of the finest artists working in America today, the film is a story about creativity, community, and the land that inspires both.

Where we are
The film is about halfway complete. We are seeking funding to finish the second half of the story and bring it to audiences everywhere.

Cheers,
