2010 DocuWeeks Call For Entries Now Open

By IDA Editorial Staff

2009 Oscar® Nominee for Best Documentary Short Subject: Rabbit a la Berlin. 2008 Oscar® Winner for Best Documentary Short Subject: Smile Pinki. 2008 Oscar® Nominee Best Documentary Feature: The Betrayal - Nerakhoon.

What do these films have in common? They all qualified for Oscar® contention through International Documentary Association's annual DocuWeeks™ Theatrical Documentary Showcase, which helps to qualify outstanding new feature and short documentaries for Academy Award® consideration.

For 13 years DocuWeeks™ has helped shine the spotlight on great documentaries that may not have otherwise gotten a shot at winning an Oscar®. We have just opened our call for entries for our 14th Annual DocuWeeks™ Theatrical Documentary Showcases, which will take place in August 2010 in Los Angeles and New York City ( (Specific dates TBA, all screenings completed by August 19, 2010)

Enter now, the early bird deadline is April 14, 2010.

To be eligible for Academy Awards® consideration, a feature documentary film must complete a seven-day commercial theatrical run (twice daily) in the County of Los Angeles and in the Borough of Manhattan between September 1, 2009, and August 31, 2010. Short documentaries must complete a seven-day commercial theatrical run (once per day) in the County of Los Angeles or in the Borough of Manhattan. DocuWeeks™ provides its participants with a seven-day commercial theatrical run in Los Angeles County and in the Borough of Manhattan. Per Academy requirements, shorts will screen in only one location, either in the County of Los Angeles or in the Borough of Manhattan.

For complete information about Academy Awards® consideration, please see the 83rd Academy Awards Special Rules for Documentary Awards (Rule Twelve) for complete eligibility and application requirements. Read Rule Twelve here. Each filmmaker is responsible for submitting the Academy Awards® application. IDA will provide the filmmaker with proof of advertisement, guide listings and theatrical runs for submission to the Academy prior to the Academy deadline.
