Many filmmakers believe that only a handful of prestigious festivals hold the key to success in selling their films and making a living from their craft. They often focus on big-name festivals like Sundance, Cannes, or Busan. However, there's a wide range of festivals that can help a documentary thrive without relying solely on these top-tier events.

At our IDA member-exclusive Festival Strategy event, Abby Sun, IDA’s Director of Artist Programs, will offer 20-minute strategy sessions to selected filmmakers who fill out the project intake form.

The workshop is open to all IDA members to observe the strategy sessions. Five projects will be chosen to participate. The deadline for project submissions is Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Attendees must also watch a 38-minute recording of the Festival Strategy Workshop to learn about festival applications, negotiations, and communications.

This event is not recorded. RSVP is required, as we have limited spots available for the first 50 registrants. Log in to the IDA membership portal to register. All members, regardless of project stage, are encouraged to attend. You don't need a project to join the Festival Strategy Workshop.

Light refreshments, drinks, and snacks will be provided. Please wear a mask when not eating or drinking. Street parking and parking at our offices are available at your own expense. Please note that our office is a scent-free space.

*After the workshop, there will be a brief reception
