Synopsis

 

Desperate for answers about the theft of her 2 paintings, a Czech artist seeks out and befriends the career criminal who stole them. After inviting her thief to sit for a portrait, the two form an improbable relationship and an inextricable bond that will forever link these lonely souls.

Digital conversation with Director & Cinematographer Benjamin Ree, as well as main film subjects Barbora Kysilkova, the painter and Karl-Bertil Nordland, the thief; moderated by Eric Kohn, Executive Editor & Chief Critic at IndieWire. Closed-captioned and ASL interpreted.

Benjamin Ree, Director & Cinematographer

Benjamin Ree (pictured left) has made 15 short documentaries, including Dreaming of the Golden Eagle, which premiered at IDFA in 2012. His first feature documentary, Magnus, about the best chess player in the world, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016.

Barbora Kysilkova, Film Subject, The Painter

Barbora Kysilkova (pictured center) is a Czech painter living and working in Oslo, Norway and Berlin, Germany.

Karl-Bertil Nordland, Film Subject, The Thief

Karl-Bertil Nordland (pictured right) is a Norwegian athlete, student and is currently working for Blue Cross helping out with rehabilitation related issues.
