About the Project

Matininó tells the story of a multi-generational family of Puerto Rican women transforming their experience with violence into a fantasy film.

    Gabriela Díaz Arp

    Gabriela Díaz Arp is an independent director and producer passionate about the ways visual language can deepen human understanding and connection.Her last film, Meeting a Monster, which explores the memories and motivations of former white supremacist Angela King through a virtual reality experience, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was shown at festivals around the world including Cannes NEXT, Sheffield Doc Fest, Atlanta Film Festival and New Orleans Film Festival. Her work has been supported by Sundance, Film Independent, Doc Society, BAVC, Ford Foundation, Chicken & Egg, and Working Films.

    Karla Claudio

    Karla Claudio is a filmmaker, visual artist and educator born and based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She produces and directs experimental documentaries on Caribbean ethnobotany, mythology and land based practices in support of material and food sovereignty. Her recent films include The New Indigo Wave (2024), Who is Logwood? (2023) and A Sigil's Landscape (2022). Her video work has been presented at BronxNet, Whitney Museum of American Art, Puerto Rico National Archive, Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center and local galleries. She was selected for the 2023 Sundance Producers Intensive and Caribbean Film Academy Fellow for the Third Horizon.

    Wendy Muñiz

    Wendy Muñiz is a creative producer, scriptwriter, visual artist, and educator. A Dominican immigrant and first-generation student, she obtained a PhD in Latin American Cultures from Columbia University and co-founded Zero Chill. Her work as a producer has received the support of Ibermedia, DGCine (Dominican Republic), CNCINE (Ecuador), IMCINE (Mexico), and the Tribeca Film Institute, traveling worldwide from BAFICI, Dok Leipzig, and Montréal World Cinema to Colcata IFF, Sao Paulo, and Zlín. She graduated from the EAVE Producers Workshop and is an Andrew W. Mellon and Woodrow Wilson fellow alumni for her work on archival violence as a researcher and educator.

    Guillermo Zouain

    Guillermo Zouain is a producer and director. He directed and cowrote ALGUN LUGAR (MIFF 2015), and among his latest productions are IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY by Victoria Linares (True/False 2022), OFF THE ROAD by José Permar (Visions Du Reel, Interriligieux Award 2020), AGUJERO NEGRO by Diego Araujo (BAFICI 2018) and DONDE SE QUEDAN LAS COSAS (FICG 2018) by Daniela Silva. He co-created, co-directed, and co-wrote Michelle Rojas is not Okay, a Broadway Video and  Audible audio series with Wendy Muñiz and Zero Chill.
