Events Code of Conduct


Online Events

IDA is dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive digital experience for all participants, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion. Participants include attendees, employees, moderators, sponsors, panelists and volunteers. We do not tolerate any discrimination or harassment in any form. 

Harassment and discrimination include but are not limited to: offensive verbal/written comments (including those related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion), sexual imagery, deliberate intimidation, trolling, stalking, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

We expect all participants to adhere to and uphold the principles of our Code of Conduct for all in-person and digital events. 

Non-compliance of IDA’s Code of Conduct will result in immediate removal from the event and participant(s) may be banned from participating in future in-person and digital events. For all digital events, IDA may also report your behavior to the host platform which may result in you being banned from the platform. 

If you witness or are subjected to any inappropriate behavior, or have any other concerns, please email events@documentary.org. A member of our events staff will respond as soon as possible. 


In-person Events

IDA seeks to ensure that all guests, staff and volunteers are treated with dignity and respect, and to ensure that all of our events can be fully enjoyed by all without disruption. IDA is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity & expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity or religion.

All IDA events participants - including staff, panelists, moderators, vendors, sponsors, guests, volunteers, and attendees are required to comply with this code of conduct before, during and after events, whether in-person, online, or any other method of communication.   

IDA does not tolerate harassment in any form. We define harassment as including, but not limited to:

  • any form of verbal or physical abuse or threatening behavior;

  • unwelcome sexual attention or physical contact;

  • targeted comments related to gender, gender identity & expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, lifestyle choices and practices;

  • deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording;

  • use of derogatory language;

  • sustained disruption of programs; 

  • public display of sexual images or use of sexually explicit language.

There is a zero-tolerance policy for violations of this policy. If you are asked to stop a harassing behavior you must comply immediately. Anyone not in compliance may be removed immediately, without refund, at the sole discretion of IDA or venue staff. IDA also reserves the right to ban the violator from future events. In addition, IDA reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. This policy exists to ensure a safe environment for all IDA event participants.

Please speak to an IDA staff member on-site if you believe you’ve observed or experienced a violation of this Code of Conduct. If you can not locate an IDA staff member, please contact: Public Programs & Events Senior Manager, Camillia Shofani, at events@documentary.org.

IDA will work to assess the situation and to respond as soon as possible. All suspected violations of local, state or federal law should be reported to local law enforcement. For emergencies, immediately dial 9-1-1.
