Documentary is proud to unveil the trailer of A Quiet Love, a powerful new feature from acclaimed Irish filmmaker Garry Keane (GAZAIn the Shadow of Beirut), which will have its world premiere later this week at Doc Edge 2025 in the festival’s Being Oneself strand.

Told entirely in Irish Sign Language (ISL), A Quiet Love offers a tender, multi-layered portrait of three Deaf couples navigating life, love, and identity in contemporary Ireland. From a forbidden, decades-spanning romance across a religious divide, to an LGBTQI+ couple raising both Deaf and hearing children, to a Deaf boxer and his hearing partner confronting a life-changing decision—Keane’s film is a cinematic celebration of resilience, connection, and enduring love.

Marking a historic first as an Irish feature film in ISL, A Quiet Love was crafted by a Deaf and hearing creative team. The film, sold by Taskovski Films, is produced with support from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland in association with Coimisiún na Meán, TG4, and Reach Deaf Services. It recently won the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award at the 2025 Global Production Awards in Cannes, underscoring its powerful message of visibility and inclusiveness.

“The trailer provides an emotive introduction to each of the film’s three couples—John and Agnes, Seán and Deyanna, and Michelle and Kathy—highlighting the unique and deeply personal aspects of their remarkable love stories,” the team tells Documentary.

“We see the effortless affection shared by John and Agnes, set against the devastating backdrop of conflict that has shaped their relationship. Boxer Seán’s impossible decision comes into sharp focus as he reveals the sacrifices he and his hearing partner, Deyanna, would need to make in order to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer. We are also given a glimpse into the challenges that Michelle and Kathy have faced as they raise their Deaf and hearing daughters, and the strength and resilience at the heart of their family,” they continue.

Joseph Dobson edited the trailer, which features original music by composer Stephen Shannon and sound design by Michelle Cunniffe at Dublin’s Outer Limits Post Production.
