If you are a lapsed member and have been considering a renewal, now is the perfect time to come back to IDA. If you are new to IDA, we look forward to welcoming you into our membership community. And, if you are already a member (thank you– we love our members!) and considering upgrading, now is the time to do so. Please share this special offer with anyone who may benefit from an IDA membership.

On February 6, 1982, at a production center in Los Angeles, 75 members of the documentary community gathered for the first official meeting of the International Documentary Association. This gathering followed a grassroots call from IDA founder and documentary producer Linda Buzzell, via an ad placed in Daily Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and The Los Angeles Times, detailing the need for an organization created both for and by documentary practitioners and inviting filmmakers to a charter meeting. Read more about IDA’s origins here.

In the 41 years since that eventful day, IDA has become a robust international community of nonfiction media makers, never wavering from its original vision of a world where documentary creators are given the tools and support they need to flourish in their craft.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Our community would not exist without our ardent supporters, and we look forward to celebrating our 41st birthday, and beyond, with all of you.

If you have any questions about the birthday discount feel free to reach out to our membership and individual giving program manager, Anisa Hosseinnezhad, at anisa@documentary.org
