Doc U: 2 for 2 - Stories from 'The Wrecking Crew' & 'Tig'
Join us for 2 for 2, the riveting new Doc U series, in which we go behind the scenes to explore the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of two documentary filmmakers who have managed to overcome the odds and ultimately prevail with their films. In our premiere event, moderated by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil), we turn the spotlight on Denny Tedesco, producer/director of The Wrecking Crew and Ashley York, producer/director (along with Kristina Goolsby) of Tig.
Though The Wrecking Crew saw success with its festival run in 2008, the astronomical cost of licensing the music kept the film from receiving any kind of distribution deal. Seven years and a $300,000 Kickstarter campaign later, find out how director/producer Denny Tedesco, producer Suzie Greene Tedesco, and producer/editor Claire Scanlon were able to play by the rules and pay off the rights enabling the film to receive a successful distribution run.
As an independent documentary filmmaker, you are present, camera in hand, for many of your film subject's most private moments. But, how do you best negotiate those moments so that you can do service both to the film you are making and to the person whose life is unfolding onscreen? And, to further complicate things, what if your film subject is a rising celebrity, overnight media sensation, and longtime friend of your co-director? Filmmaker Ashley York, who co-directed Tig with Kristina Goolsby, writer Jennifer Arnold, and producer Michael Clark talk about the unique challenges of collaborating with an up-and-coming star, while making a film that is truthful, honest, fair... and funny.
2 for 2 presents two moderated 45-minute case studies back-to-back focused on two new documentaries through interviews with the filmmaker and key crew, clips, and time for audience Q&A.
Afterward, share your own success stories at our wine and beer reception at the Landmark’s Wine Bar.
