The Providers premieres April 8 on Independent Lens.
Reconstruction: America after the Civil War, a new series on PBS, examines the chapter in American history that immediately followed the Civil War, when the nation struggled to rebuild itself in the face of profound loss, massive destruction and revolutionary social change. The series focuses on the extraordinary progress African-Americans made as leaders and citizens from 1865-1875, then on the horrible backlash they suffered from White America that ushered in the Jim Crow Era. Reconstruction premieres Tuesdays, April 9 and 16. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Dyllan McGee are executive producers. Julia Marchesi is the series producer and director.
